Wind Cave National Park
Beneath the rolling plains and craggy rock faces of the Black Hills lies a hidden world. At Wind Cave National Park, you find one of the longest and most elaborate cave networks in the world. Wind Cave is home to some of the most unique and rear formations in the world and is packed with impressive mineral formations. Above the caves roam incredible wildlife like bison, elk, prairie dogs, and so much more. 

Evans Plunge
As one of the state’s oldest attractions, Evans Plunge has been a local and tourist favorite for more than a century. Built in 1890, Evans Plunge encompasses dozens of sparking springs as well as one large spring of mineral water. Long considered as a medical cure-all, today Evans Plunge is part water park and part med spa, offering chances to play and relax in the sprawling springs. The springs are open year-round.

Black Hills Wild Horse Sanctuary
Across more than 11,000 acres of wild, open space, you’ll find herds of wild horses, roaming the untamed lands as they did 300 years ago. Started in 1988 by Dayton O. Hyde, the Black Hills Wild Horse Sanctuary is one of the greatest private wilderness areas in the American West. This sanctuary gives unwanted wild horses a second chance at a life of freedom. Hundreds of wild mustangs thunder their way across the prairie, and you can take it all in thanks to the sanctuary’s numerous tours that run throughout the year.

Pioneer Museum
Spanning 25 unique exhibit spaces, the Fall River Pioneer Museum is an incredible way to step back into time and experience the frontier days of South Dakota. The museum includes hand-crafted tools, machines, and more that were used to make daily life possible in the rugged landscape of South Dakota. Visit the authentic 19th-century schoolhouse as well as a country store and compare it to your own life in the 21st century!

Hot Air Balloon Rides
Let your excitement soar at the annual Hot Air Balloon Festival in Hot Springs. Encompassing two days of family fun, the festival offers a chance to see some of the most colorful hot air balloons in the country take flight from the Hot Springs Municipal Airport all at once. Other attractions during the festival include glider rides, Night Glow games at the Southern Hills Golf Course, and an art walk downtown.

Southern Hills Golf Course
Regarded as South Dakota’s premier golf course, the Southern Hills Golf Course is tucked deep into the southern part of the Black Hills. Featuring 18 holes set to one of the most breath-taking backdrops in the country, you’ll enjoy an unforgettable experience here. With a variety of elevation changes, this course is as challenging as it is rewarding. This course is surprisingly affordable and boasts all of the amenities that you’d expect from your favorite golf course in Hot Springs.

Fall River Freedom Trail
One of the few paved trails in all of the Black Hills can be found in Hot Springs. The Fall River Freedom Trail spans 1.15 miles, starting behind the Mueller Center and travels upstream along the Fall River, connecting you to Kidney Spring. The river runs freely all year round, kept warm by the numerous hot springs that line its banks. With playgrounds, wading areas, and picnic sites, the Fall River Freedom trail is the perfect place to enjoy the outdoors with friends and family of all ages. 

Angostura Recreation Area
For those who love spending time in and around water, Angostura Recreation Area features 36 miles of unbroken shoreline. With some of the best sandy beaches in the entire state, you’ll love all the water sports you can take part in at this recreation area. The crystal clear, deep blue waters are kept stocked with walleye, bass, pike, and perch, meaning even the most avid of anglers will have plenty to keep them hooked.

Peter Norbeck Scenic Byway
Named for a prominent South Dakota Statesman, the Peter Norbeck Scenic Byway includes some of the most scenic and inspiring roads in all of the country. This tour takes you past some of the most famous monuments in the state, as well as through some of the most picturesque parts of the Black Hills. Make sure you can devote the whole day to explore this incredible 70-mile loop through the Black Hills.

Bison Express Tours
For an unrivaled day tour experience, you’d be hard pressed to find anything more fun than the Bison Express. This tour includes stops at some of the Black Hill’s most exciting natural and cultural features, including Mount Rushmore, the Crazy Horse monument, Custer State Park, and Mount Coolidge. Your admission fee includes entrance into all of the attractions, and is one of the best ways to see a lot of the states best features all in one day!
